2017 Maserati Quattroporte
When Maserati first debuted its now-iconic Quattroporte sedan at the Turin Motor Show back in 1963, the automotive world was turned upside down. The Quattroporte executive saloon car represented one of the first times that high-end premium luxury was paired with a performance-enhanced race car engine. With consumers instantly impressed by the new car from the Italian automotive brand, the Quattroporte would go on to become the brand’s oldest nameplate in its century-long history. Still available to drivers around the world, the Quattroporte has become an important part of the Maserati lineup, so much so that it is now the flagship model for the luxury automotive brand. Today’s version of the sedan is hardly the same as the 1964 model that was first released to the public, but the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte is already a legend in its own right.
With such a lasting legacy, it only makes sense that Maserati would pour so much heart and soul into the newest version of its flagship sedan. Redesigned and completely new for the 2017 model year, the Quattroporte is more impressive and jaw-dropping than ever before.
The 2017 Quattroporte received quite the makeover for this model year, giving it a whole new look that lines up more directly with the Alfieri concept car, than it does with past renditions of Maserati’s flagship sedan. Staying in step with the Alfieri concept car’s exterior design language, the new Quattroporte mirrors it perfectly.
One of the more striking changes made to the newest Quattroporte, is exterior styling differences between the GranLusso and the GranSport models of the luxury sedan. While each one is a 2017 Maserati Quattroporte, these optional packages feature distinct exterior characteristics that enable them to stand apart from one another. The Quattroporte GranLusso model boasts the highest level of exclusivity, with more elegant lines, and a flowing overall shape. Chrome bumper inserts, body-colored side skirts, jet black brake calipers, and 20-inch Mercurio alloy wheels, round out the elegant exterior styling that this model of the Quattroporte proudly displays.
Drivers who crave more of the racing side of Maserati’s heritage, will appreciate the GranSport model of the 2017 Quattroporte. With an exterior designed for a more toned appearance, the GranSport model includes front and rear sport bumpers, exclusive black exterior features, body-colored side skirts, red brake calipers, and 21-inch Titano alloy wheels.
Each one of these models is a Quattroporte at heart, but they gain their own distinct flare based on what individual Maserati owners want most.
Just as the GranLusso and GranSport versions of the Quattroporte offer distinct exterior styling cues, so do they in regards to interior design. The GranLusso features an exclusive interior cabin, with premium Italian Zegna silk covering the interior of this Quattroporte model from floor to ceiling. The only automotive manufacturer in the world to feature bespoke silk interiors, Maserati left nothing to chance when designing the latest version of their flagship sedan. The GranLusso also adds a real wood and leather steering wheel, power adjustable foot pedals, power rear sun blinds, heated front and rear seats, and a four-zone climate control system.
The Quattroporte GranSport interior is designed for ultimate performance behind the wheel. With seating intended for race car readiness, and a sport steering wheel made out of carbon fiber and outfitted with paddle shifters, the GranSport is as ready for the track as any Quattroporte can be. While the GranLusso features interior styling that is more sophisticated and a nod to the Italian luxury brand’s past, the GranSport is a modern take on the racecar heritage that Maserati was built upon.
Advanced Safety & In-Vehicle Technology
As most other luxury car brands have built their reputations on high-end materials and in-vehicle technology, that hasn’t been the case for Maserati – until now. Feeling the pressure to bring the Quattroporte into the 21st century, Maserati has finally outfitted its flagship sedan with all of the in-vehicle tech luxury car owners expect. Adding semi-autonomous driving technologies, such as Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go capabilities, a lane departure warning system, forward collision warning, and advanced brake assist with automatic emergency braking, the 2017 Quattroporte is arguably the safest version of the sedan ever produced.
The focal point of the luxury sedan’s interior is a large 8.4-inch touchscreen multimedia screen. Compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Quattroporte owners can now integrate their smartphone devices for hands-free connectivity. Onboard Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity is also available for 2017, as well as optional 10.2-inch LCD screens in the second row for backseat passenger entertainment. All in all, the 2017 Quattroporte is the most technologically advanced version of this iconic Maserati sedan, and will make plenty of luxury car buyers happy as a result.
Next to luxury, Maserati is known for performance. With strong historical ties to the world of professional racing, Maserati has designed the Quattroporte with incredible engine options characterized by varying levels of performance. The base 2017 Quattroporte S features a 3.0-liter V6 engine, capable of producing 404 horsepower, and 406 lb.-ft. of torque. With a maximum speed of 177 miles per hour, this Quattroporte model can jog from a standstill to 60 miles per hour in a mere five seconds flat.
The mid-level model for 2017 is the Quattroporte S Q4. Featuring the same engine as the base model, the S Q4 adds Maserati’s renowned all-wheel drive system for ultimate on-road capability. While the horsepower and torque ratings are the same as the base model, the S Q4 can get up to 60 miles per hour a bit quicker, at a rate of 4.8 seconds.
The 2017 Quattroporte GTS is the performance-lover’s dream. The powerful 3.8-liter V8 engine is capable of producing a horsepower rating of 523, and 524 lb.-ft. of torque. A near perfect balance of power, the GTS reaches a maximum speed of 193 miles per hour, and can get up to 60 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds with ease.
